Trip Report - Bendigo gold mining area - September 2024
A full turnout for Chris and Fern's Bendigo ‘‘prospectors” trip (there's gold in them there hills/ shares).
Anne and I joined at Tarras and after an abbreviated lunch ,as we were apparently a tiny bit late, headed off behind our resident geologist/ gold digger’s not so 4x4 Toyota.
First stop Andrew gave us a view of the topography of the fault line (pretty unclear), but made more sense with his charts and became visually, more apparent when we climbed up to one of the drilling sites..
Onwards and upwards to the dam and the detailed description and explanation of their best prospect.
The company, Santana (share price $2.36), is, drilling core samples 2000 feet down through solid, granite with their best core to date registering 1.4 kg of gold per ton. This is apparently very high iand has attracted worldwide interest. A pretty cold wind at that level and the miners of old must've gone through great hardship . They just missed the gold seam, that Andrew was describing by 150 m..
Onwards down Thomsons Track, through deep muddy puddles and many gates to track’s end and a thank you to Chris for organising a great day.
We do benefit from our members contacts .
Those heading north stopped at Dansey’s Pass for a snack & drink then off home over Danseys.
Cheers Stephen & Anne
