Combined Trip Itinerary hosted be North Otago 4 Wheel drive Club Inc.
Date to be held: Friday 25 & Saturday 26 April, 2025
Meeting location – New World South Hill car park, 72 Wansbeck Street Oamaru 9400, its on state highway 1

Group welcome and trip brief will commence at 7.30am
There are 2 trip events each day. They are Trip A and Trip B. The group will be split into each trip on Friday and alternated on Saturday. This is to keep the numbers at a reasonable level each day.
Trip A – leader is Chis Smyth. Location is the Kakanui Ranges covering 4 private stations which Chris has work hard to access plus some QE 2 ground.
Trip Grade is 3, with some very steep drop off's, steep sections, large rocks and a posh long drop at the lunch stop.
The traverse is at elevation so carrying appropriate recovery gear is mandatory including snow chains.
Good AT or MT tyres are required and will be checked as part of the vehicle safety briefing and inspection. Low ratio and high clearance is required.
Pets are not permitted on trip A as per land owners requirements.
Trip B – leader is Harry van der Pauw. Location is Oteake Conservation Park, DOC.
Trip grade is 3
Start at Mt Kyeburn track off Danseys Pass Rd, lunch at Tailings hut with a posher toilet. End at Little Kyeburn Rd then back to Oamaru. There are a number of track options in the park so we will take the less travelled.
Traverse at altitude so again so carry appropriate recovery gear including snow chains. Gravel tracks, some mud, river crossings. Good AT or MT tyres are required. This will be checked at the briefing and safety check.
Dogs are ok on trip B
Combined evening meal on Saturday night is at the Brydone Hotel Oamaru, 115 Thames Street Oamaru. ( Main street of town )
Cost will be $52.00 per head for those attending. This will need to be paid in advance, cut off date 31 March 2025.
Trip A - cost will be in the form of a donation jar at trips end to be passed onto land owners for appreciation of station access.
Trip B – no cost
