Event report - Ladies Social road trip Chris Thompson
We gathered at Northside New World and travelled to Waimate, it was a beautiful spring day.
Upon arriving at Waimate we headed along to the park south of the shopping centre, the market was busy with a great selection of stalls for us to peruse, ranging from vegetables, honey, cards and calendars, a leather goods stall where the craftsman had a range of belts, bags and steampunk themed hats and masks, Russ needs a new belt but at $75 he can wear bindertwine for a while.
The coffee truck was welcomed by several of the girls. I was impressed by one gentleman selling second hand garden tools. But happily bought some free range eggs from the next stall, $2.50 for half a dozen. Bargain....
Market done, lets hit the shops, we enjoyed the second hand shops, reflecting on the items that our mums had in their kitchen cupboards. Next stop was The Waimate Restaurant, it was lovely and warm so we sat in the beer garden to have our lunch. Beautiful selection and reasonable prices. As we sat here we watched a selection of classic cars gathering for an organised Run.
With full tummies we headed off to Kelsey’s Bush to have a look at the daffodils and have a quick walk to the waterfall. We enjoyed the bird song with bellbirds in mass flying around us. The day was getting on so we headed back towards Oamaru, as we headed through Glenavy the classic cars were exiting from the Ikawai road, crossing the highway ahead of us.
The shops at Riverstone were calling us so we had a stop there.
The day was a great success and I was asked when we would do it again, I was thinking of The Strawberry Fair but that has been cancelled so maybe sometime next year.
Watch this space and save your pocket money girls.
Chris Thompson.
